You’re probably saying “Sha, what de rass is a Flatblack?” LOL. Welp, it’s an African American person with no known Caribbean roots who is heavily involved in the carnival scene. They are so engulfed in the culture that upon meeting them one would assume that they were West Indian.
Over the year’s I’ve assumed incorrectly far too many times and have always been shocked and amazed when I meet more Flatblacks. This is the first of the Flatblack series featuring carnival veterans Chrissy and Dee. Watch the video to hear about their family history, how the were introduced to carnival and what motivates their addiction.
