Why I’m Stepping Back from Carnival Content After a Decade

Brace Yourself…

I’m telling y’all right now, this post is definitely gonna be unpopular LOL!

Listen, I’ve been riding the Caribbean carnival wave for more than 20 years, and I’m not gonna lie—I’m kinda over it. Whew, I said it! Don’t get me wrong; I’ll still be outside enjoying the vibes and catching a fete or two or three. But carnival as the main focus of my creative content? Nah, I’m done. A solid 10 years in the carnival content game is enough, don’t you think?

Why Though ?!

Lately, the carnival scene has been giving me pause. Oh, you want details? Welp, let’s talk about the costume options (or lack thereof), the politics, the crazy price hikes, and the shrinking list of bands I can actually trust. Honestly, the whole situation has me side-eyeing the entire carnival circuit. And while I could keep ranting, I’mma just leave it there.

Back in my 20s and 30s, I had the patience for all this nonsense. But now? Nope. I work way too hard to drop my money on events that feel like a gamble. My priority is enjoying myself, stress-free. Worrying about whether my costume will be available on time—or if a fetes venue is gonna change again and again—or wondering how long I’ll have to suffer listening to the same 2 songs competing for road march – just ain’t it.

Now that I’m somebody’s mama, my time outside is limited, and even before my little one, I was hella picky about where my coins went. These days, my tolerance for foolishness and mediocrity is at an all-time low. If it doesn’t spark joy (and keep it lit), I’m really not interested. If the quality doesn’t match the price point, allyuh can count me out.

Let’s Keep It Real!

Please don’t get it twisted—my love for the culture isn’t going anywhere. My content will always be infused with Caribbean vibes, because duh – that’s who I am. T’ingz Nice has always been about celebrating my roots, diving into my many passions, and embracing this wild ride we call wanderlust. It’s still all love, just with a little less feathers and a lot more me. Quite frankly, I was never big on feathers to begin with LOL.

For real though, my cup doesn’t exactly runneth over as just a consumer. The real joy comes from curating experiences that actually make a difference for people and communities. So, that being said, your girl might’ve just registered a new company… and maybe even got a fresh logo designed (Cue the evil grin and BirdMan hands). Let’s just say I’ve found a way to merge my career in education with my love for culture and travel. Stay tuned, y’all—it’s about to get NICE-errr!
