Music is a HUGE part of the carnival culture. Historically, soca and calypso have been the staple genres during the carnival season. In recent times we have begun to hear a number of different sounds on the carnival scene, one of them being dancehall. With change comes outrage and resistance, and there are many die-hard carnival purists who believe dancehall has no place on the carnival scene.
